Igbomina Youth Assembly Official Correspondence to The Government of  Kwara State

 

SUBJECT: Urgent Attention Required to Address Insecurity in Kwara South

His Excellency, the Governor of Kwara State

Government House, Ilorin, Kwara State

 

 

We, the Igbomina Youth Assembly, write to bring to your attention the alarming level of insecurity in Kwara South, particularly in Igbomina land. The recent surge in kidnapping and other violent crimes has created a climate of fear, disrupting lives and livelihoods.

 

RECENT OCCURRENCES OF KIDNAPPING

1. Abduction of Mr. Saka Ajisafe: On Saturday, April 26, 2025, Mr. Saka Ajisafe, an indigene of Oke Oyan, was abducted while on his way to his farm. The kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N20 million.

2. Kidnapping of Barrister Elizabeth Arinde and Alhaji Musbau Amuda: On Friday, April 25, 2025, Barrister Elizabeth Arinde, Head of the Legal Department at Oke Ero Local Government, and Alhaji Musbau Amuda, Director of Personnel Management (DPM) of Oke-Ero Local Government Area, were kidnapped alongside four others while traveling from Oke Ero LGA to Ilorin.

3. Kidnapping of Six Persons at Eleyin: Recently, six persons were kidnapped at Eleyin while on their way back to Ilorin from Iloffa in Oke Ero LGA.

4. Hijacking of Bus on Transit: A bus on transit from Abuja to Offa was hijacked along Obbo road, and all commuters on board were kidnapped.

 

DEMANDS

We urge the government to take immediate action to address the security situation in Kwara South. Our demands include:

 

1. Enhanced Security Measures: Deploy more security personnel and equipment to Kwara South, particularly in Igbomina land.

2. Intelligence Gathering: Improve intelligence gathering and sharing among security agencies.

3. Community Engagement: Engage with local communities to build trust and gather information.

4. Support for Victims: Provide support and compensation to victims and their families.

 

 

We appreciate the government’s efforts so far in addressing security challenges. However, we urge more decisive action to restore peace and security in our region.

 

CONCLUSION

We believe that with prompt action, we can restore peace and security in Kwara South. We look forward to seeing tangible efforts to address this crisis.

 

We recommend that the government:

 

1. Convene an Emergency Security Meeting: With security agencies and stakeholders to discuss the security situation and develop a comprehensive plan to address it.

2. Conduct a Security Review: To identify areas of improvement and develop effective strategies to prevent further incidents.

3. Implement Effective Solutions: To prevent further incidents and restore peace and security in Kwara South.
