Governor Makinde’s Chief of Staff Eyes 2027 Oyo Governorship
Speculation is rife over the possible entry of Olusegun “Segun” Ogunwuyi, Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, into the 2027 governorship race.
While Ogunwuyi has yet to make a formal declaration, political insiders say he is among those expected to announce intentions to contest in the coming months.
Governor Makinde recently urged political appointees in his administration to publicly declare their ambitions for elective offices ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at an event in Ibadan, he encouraged his aides to pursue their political goals through the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if they intended to run. Ogunwuyi was notably present at the gathering, fueling speculation about his potential candidacy.
Ogunwuyi, who has served in both legislative and executive capacities, is considered a prominent figure within the PDP and Oyo State politics. Analysts suggest that his experience and proximity to the governor make him a strong contender should he officially enter the race.
Other political figures, including members of the House of Representatives, have already declared interest in the 2027 contest, making the race for Oyo State’s top office highly competitive.
Despite the buzz, Ogunwuyi has not issued a statement confirming his intentions, leaving political watchers awaiting his official move. The coming months are expected to clarify the lineup of PDP aspirants for the governorship, with Ogunwuyi’s decision likely to shape the dynamics of the race.
