Imo Received N19 for Every N1 Contributed to VAT Pool in January 2026, FAAC Data Reveals

Imo State received about N19 for every N1 it contributed to Nigeria’s Value Added Tax (VAT) pool in January 2026, according to data from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

Figures compiled by TheCableIndex show that Imo contributed N559.20 million to the VAT pool but received N10.66 billion during the month.

The data highlights how several states received allocations that significantly exceeded the revenue generated from their territories.

Taraba State received the second-highest ratio, collecting about 17 times its contribution. The state generated N545.42 million but received N9.37 billion from the VAT pool.

Benue State contributed N1.20 billion and received N11 billion, representing roughly nine times its contribution.

Similarly, Cross River State contributed N1.34 billion and received N9.98 billion, about eight times the amount generated from the state.

Abia State contributed N1.81 billion and received N10.02 billion, while Kogi State generated N1.73 billion but received N10.35 billion both roughly six times their contributions.

Ebonyi State also recorded a similar ratio, contributing N1.57 billion and receiving N9.45 billion from the VAT pool.

The figures underscore the redistributive nature of Nigeria’s VAT allocation system, where some states receive significantly higher allocations than the revenue generated within their jurisdictions.
