Four-Storey School Structure Collapses Minutes After Evacuation in Lagos

A four-storey building housing a private school in the Ogba area of Lagos State collapsed on Monday afternoon shortly after students and staff were evacuated.

The structure, located on Adudatu Street behind County Hospital in the Aguda area of Ogba, serves as the premises for Yemco Nursery, Primary and Comprehensive College.

Witnesses said school authorities ordered an immediate evacuation after signs of structural distress were noticed earlier in the day.

Residents in the area reported that wooden planks had begun falling from the roof while cracks were also visible on parts of the building, raising alarm among staff and prompting the evacuation.

The building eventually gave way around midday, only a few minutes after pupils, teachers and other workers had left the structure.

Emergency responders from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene to secure the area. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

Authorities have commenced investigations to determine the cause of the collapse, which adds to growing concerns about building safety in parts of Lagos State.
