AC Milan Beat Inter in Derby as Genoa, Lecce, Verona Claim Serie A Wins
AC Milan boosted their Serie A title hopes with a narrow 1–0 victory over league leaders, Inter Milan in Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina.
The decisive moment came in the 35th minute when Pervis Estupiñán fired home after being picked out by a defence-splitting pass from Youssouf Fofana.
The result moves Milan to within seven points of Inter in the league standings and marks the first time the Rossoneri have won both Milan derbies in a Serie A season since the 2010–11 campaign.
Milan nearly took the lead earlier after a mistake from Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer presented Luka Modrić with an opportunity, but his effort went wide. Inter responded strongly and almost opened the scoring when Henrikh Mkhitaryan surged into the box from midfield, only to be denied by Milan captain Mike Maignan.
Inter continued to push for an equaliser after the break, with Piotr Zielinski forcing Maignan into a save and Federico Dimarco blazing over from close range.
The Nerazzurri thought they had scored in stoppage time when the ball found the net following a corner, but the effort was ruled out after the referee had already blown for a foul.
Elsewhere, Genoa CFC defeated AS Roma 2–1. Junior Messias opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Evan Ndicka equalised for Roma, but Vítinha struck late to secure the victory for the hosts.
Fiorentina and Parma Calcio played out a goalless draw, while Hellas Verona came from behind to beat Bologna FC 2–1 after goals from Martin Frese and Bowie cancelled out Alex Rowe’s opener.
In another match, US Lecce secured a 2–1 victory over US Cremonese. Santiago Pierotti and Nikola Stulić scored for Lecce before Federico Bonazzoli pulled one back for the visitors early in the second half.
