Umo Eno Reaffirms Tinubu’s Promise to Deliver Ibom Deep Seaport

Governor Umo Eno has declared his unwavering confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will fulfill his promise to construct the long-awaited Ibom Deep Seaport in Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking at a large gathering in Uyo on International Women’s Day, Governor Eno quoted President Tinubu directly, saying, “I will give you the Ibom Deep Seaport,” and added that he firmly believes the project “shall come to pass The event, which celebrated the contributions of women across the state, drew thousands of participants, including the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Governor Eno used the platform to reiterate the President’s commitment not only to the deep seaport but also to key federal road projects that will benefit the state.

The Ibom Deep Seaport, first conceived over two decades ago, has faced repeated delays despite multiple federal approvals. Analysts say the project is crucial for economic development, promising to create jobs and boost trade in the region.

Governor Eno, who joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2025, framed the project as a key motivation for aligning the state with the federal government’s development agenda. National groups, including the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in Akwa Ibom, have urged the President to expedite the seaport’s construction to maximize its economic potential.

Despite the renewed assurances, experts caution that logistic challenges, competition from other ports, and the need for comprehensive infrastructure planning could influence the project’s timeline.

Senate President Akpabio and other stakeholders have continued to press the federal government to move beyond promises to actual implementation. Governor Eno, however, remains resolute.

“I hold on to the President’s promise, and I believe it shall be fulfilled,” he said, emphasizing that the deep seaport remains a top priority for his administration and the people of Akwa Ibom State.
