Police Service Commission promotes seven AIGs to Deputy Inspectors-General
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police as part of efforts to strengthen the leadership structure of the Nigeria Police Force.
The promotions were announced on Friday following a selection process held at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
According to the PSC, the appointments were based on merit, seniority, service record, and performance during a written examination and oral interview conducted by the commission.
Those promoted include Zachariah Fera Achinyan, formerly Assistant Inspector-General in charge of Zone 4, Makurdi; Zango Ibrahim Baba, formerly AIG in the Department of Logistics and Supply; and Isyaku Mohammed, who previously served as AIG in charge of Armament at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Others elevated are Margaret Agebe Ochalla, formerly AIG at the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Lagos; Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, previously AIG in charge of Police Accounts and Budget at the Force Headquarters; Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, formerly AIG of Zone 15 in Maiduguri; and Umar Shehu Nadada, who served as AIG for Zone 14 in Katsina.
The latest promotions follow the recent elevation of Fayoade Adegoke to the substantive rank of Deputy Inspector-General, bringing him into the Force Management Team.
In a statement issued by the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs at the PSC, Torty Kalu, the commission said the new promotions were necessary to fill vacancies created by the retirement of eight Deputy Inspectors-General who previously occupied key positions.
Chairman of the commission, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to uphold professionalism and the responsibilities associated with their new ranks.
Argungu called on the officers to place national security at the forefront of their duties and maintain a productive working relationship with the commission to support the continued development of the Nigeria Police Force.
Members of the PSC board who participated in the screening process included Paul Adamu Galumje, Taiwo Lakanu, and Onyemuche Nnamani.
