By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

Udeh Ijachi, former Caretaker Chairman of Otukpo LGA in Benue State, was assassinated Thursday evening at Okabido Hotel.

The brutal attack occurred on the hotel premises where the former council boss had been lodging.

Assassins targeted Ijachi as he stepped out of his room, shooting him three times at close range. The gunmen acted with precision, ensuring the target was hit before preparing their escape.

To facilitate their getaway, the attackers fired sporadically into the air to disperse nearby crowds. The gunfire caused residents to flee in panic, leaving the area clear for the criminals.

The gunmen successfully fled the scene on a motorcycle following the shooting. The brazen nature of the broad-daylight attack has left the Otukpo community in deep shock and fear.

Current LGA Chairman Maxwell Ogiri confirmed the tragedy, describing the murder as a painful and shocking event. He noted that the assassins disappeared immediately after the targeted shooting.

Ogiri revealed that his own brother suffered a similar attack last year, highlighting a dangerous trend. He expressed grave concern over the recurring nature of such violent assassinations in the town.

The local council officially condemned the killing, labeling the act as completely unacceptable. They called on security agencies to swiftly investigate and arrest those responsible for the crime.

Political leaders and residents have joined the call for justice, demanding increased security in the region. There is an urgent push to uncover the motives behind this latest high-profile murder.
