FG Approves N48bn for Upgrade of Engineering Faculties in 12 Universities

The Federal Government has approved the release of N48 billion for the upgrade of 12 Faculties of Engineering and Technology in selected federal and state-owned universities across Nigeria.

Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, announced the approval on Monday in Abuja while inaugurating the Ministerial Monitoring, Evaluation and Implementation Committee on TETFund High Impact Intervention Projects.

Alausa said the intervention was aimed at strengthening engineering education and ensuring that projects funded under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) are executed with transparency, accountability and strict adherence to timelines.

According to him, the newly inaugurated committee will oversee the implementation of the high-impact projects to guarantee value for money and timely delivery.

The beneficiary institutions, drawn from the six geopolitical zones, include federal and state-owned universities such as Federal University of Technology, Minna, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Delta State University, Abraka and Nigerian Army University, Biu, among others.

The government said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to reposition the nation’s tertiary education sector, particularly in science, technology and innovation-driven disciplines.
