PDP Launches Nationwide Membership Drive Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party has announced the commencement of a nationwide digital membership registration exercise as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The drive, scheduled to begin on Monday, aims to expand and update the party’s membership database in compliance with electoral regulations.

According to party officials, the registration exercise will run for three weeks, excluding Sundays, and will be conducted across all wards, chapters, and state offices of the PDP.

Special cases that cannot be resolved at the local level will be handled at the national secretariat to ensure a smooth and inclusive process.

The initiative is being led under the leadership of Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, whose administration has emphasized strengthening the party’s internal structures and improving digital record-keeping.

A special committee headed by the National Organising Secretary has been inaugurated to oversee registration, address complaints, and ensure compliance with legal requirements.

The membership drive is part of the party’s efforts to meet the provisions of the Electoral Act, which requires political parties to submit a verified digital membership register to the Independent National Electoral Commission before the statutory deadline.

Party officials urged members and prospective registrants to visit designated centres to update their details and participate in the process.

Political analysts say the exercise is critical for the PDP as it seeks to rebuild its grassroots structure and enhance voter mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

The outcome of the membership drive is expected to play a significant role in shaping the party’s readiness and internal cohesion in the coming political cycle.

The PDP has called on all stakeholders to support the initiative, describing it as a step toward strengthening democratic participation and ensuring that the party remains competitive in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
