Kaduna Ex-Lawmaker Distributes 10,000 Bags of Rice to Residents for Ramadan, Lent

By Rachel Akper

A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Shehu Bawa ABG, has distributed over 10,000 bags of rice and other grains to vulnerable residents across Kaduna State as part of efforts to ease the impact of economic hardship during the Ramadan and Lent fasting seasons.

The food distribution exercise, which took place across several communities in Kaduna State, benefited widows, the elderly, persons living with disabilities, and low-income households struggling with rising food costs.

The gesture was aimed at supporting families observing the religious fasting periods with food assistance.

Speaking during the distribution, Bawa said the initiative was part of his long-standing commitment to supporting the less privileged in society. He explained that the gesture was not politically motivated but rather a humanitarian intervention meant to cushion the effects of economic challenges facing many families.

The former lawmaker, who is also a governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), used the opportunity to urge residents to participate actively in democratic processes and make informed decisions ahead of future elections.

He also emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence among religious groups, noting that Ramadan and Lent are both periods of spiritual reflection, fasting, and charity.

Residents who benefited from the food distribution expressed gratitude, describing the intervention as timely, especially amid the current economic pressures affecting household purchasing power.

The initiative is part of growing philanthropic and political outreach programs by public office holders and political actors seeking to provide relief to vulnerable populations across the state.

Kaduna State has continued to experience economic pressures, with many households calling for more support initiatives from government and private individuals to help cushion the effects of inflation and rising food prices.
