Governor Babagana Zulum visited the NCAA in Abuja to finalize international certification for Maiduguri’s Muhammadu Buhari Airport.
The meeting focused on clearing technical hurdles to secure an official aerodrome license for global flight operations.
The Governor believes upgrading the airport will spark economic growth and improve connectivity across the North-East. He emphasized that the certification is a vital step in modernizing the region’s infrastructure.
Highlighting his second goal, sources stated, “Governor Zulum also pushed for the establishment of a regional office of the NCAA in Maiduguri to strengthen aviation regulation and enhance operational efficiency in the North-East region.”
Zulum was joined by federal lawmaker Engr Bukar Talba and several top Borno State officials. Their joint visit demonstrated a high-level commitment to transforming the state’s aviation sector.
A regional NCAA base in Maiduguri would decentralize oversight and improve safety standards throughout the zone. It would also save time and resources by providing local regulatory services.
International status would link Borno directly to global trade and humanitarian routes. The NCAA is now expected to guide the state through the final phases of this certification process.
