Sheriff Shittu, a 30-year-old Nigerian fashion designer, was fatally shot during a birthday party at a Brooklyn nightclub on Valentine’s Day.
The tragedy occurred at Quilox Restaurant and Lounge in East Flatbush, where Shittu was celebrating with friends and family.
The violence erupted after an intoxicated patron allegedly harassed female guests, including Shittu’s girlfriend. This behavior led to a heated verbal confrontation between the designer and the unruly man, who was subsequently ordered to leave the premises by security.
As the suspect was being escorted out around 4:25 a.m., he reportedly opened fire, striking Shittu. The designer’s younger brother, Fawaz, witnessed the shooting and desperately tried to revive him, but the gunman managed to flee the scene immediately.
Shittu was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Centre, where he was tragically pronounced dead. Family members described him as a talented, hardworking professional who was successfully building an aspiring fashion career in the United States.
The victim’s family is now demanding justice and criticizing the venue’s security failures.
They questioned how the suspect was able to enter the lounge with a concealed firearm, suggesting that a proper search could have prevented the murder.
New York City police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large. Investigations into the shooting are ongoing as the community mourns the loss of the young designer whose life was cut short by senseless violence.
