The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received sensitive materials for the February 21, 2026, bye-elections in Rivers State.
These materials are designated for the Ahoada East II and Khana II State Constituencies.
Delivered under high security to the Central Bank of Nigeria in Port Harcourt, the ballot papers and result sheets were verified by party agents. This transparent handover ensures the integrity of the voting process.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, confirmed that Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices have been configured for the polls. Logistical preparations are now in the final stages across the affected areas.
Non-sensitive items have already been deployed to various registration centers. Additionally, training for ad-hoc staff and election security personnel has been successfully concluded to ensure smooth operations on election day.
The polls will occur alongside the FCT Area Council elections and other state constituency contests. Consequently, security agencies have increased vigilance to maintain order and prevent potential disruptions during the exercise.
INEC has urged constituents to participate peacefully and warned against any form of electoral malpractice. The commission remains committed to delivering a credible and transparent outcome for the people of Rivers State.
