The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that more than 1.58 million Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been collected across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the Area Council elections scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.
The commission disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
According to INEC, the PVC collection exercise recorded a strong turnout, reflecting heightened voter interest and preparedness for the forthcoming council polls.
The electoral body revealed that as of the close of the collection exercise on February 10, 2026, a total of 1,680,315 voters had been registered in the FCT.
Out of this number, 1,587,025 PVCs were collected, representing a 94.4 per cent collection rate, while 93,290 cards remain uncollected.
INEC described the turnout as encouraging, noting that the high collection rate underscores growing public confidence in the electoral process and sustained voter education efforts across the six Area Councils of the FCT.
The commission reiterated its commitment to conducting a free, fair and credible election, assuring residents that all necessary logistical arrangements had been concluded for the smooth conduct of the polls.
It also urged registered voters who are yet to collect their PVCs to take advantage of any remaining opportunities within the legal framework, while calling on political parties and stakeholders to maintain peaceful conduct before, during and after the elections.
