Boko Haram Faction Issues ₦100m Demand, Threat to Kebbi Community

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

A Boko Haram faction led by a commander identified as Sadiku has reportedly issued a chilling written threat to Utonu, a riverine fishing community in Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The group is demanding ₦100 million from the village as a “levy,” signaling a desperate push for financial extortion.

In addition to the massive monetary demand, the insurgents are insisting on being granted permission to preach their radical ideology within the village. Security experts view this as a strategic move by the faction to assert territorial dominance and establish a permanent foothold in the area.

This recent development has sparked significant concern regarding the expansion of insurgent activities into the riverine settlements of Ngaski. The proximity to vital waterways makes the community a strategic target for the group to monitor movements and control local trade.

Local intelligence sources indicate that the written message was delivered to community leaders, creating an atmosphere of fear among residents. The “taxation” of rural communities has become a recurring tactic for terror groups looking to fund their operations through local exploitation.

In response to the threat, residents have been placed on high alert, with security advisories urging the immediate reporting of any suspicious movements. Fishermen and travelers utilizing the surrounding waterways have also been cautioned to exercise extreme vigilance during their daily activities.

Community leaders are reportedly making urgent contact with security agencies to prevent an escalation of the situation. Security forces are expected to deploy proactive measures to safeguard the community and neutralize the threat posed by the Sadiku-led faction.
