Autopsy Rules Out Food Poisoning in Death of Nollywood Crew Members

By Rachel Akper

Preliminary autopsy results released on February 18, 2026, have ruled out food poisoning as the cause of death of two Nollywood production crew members found dead earlier this month at a movie location in Lagos.

The deceased, cinematographer Walter Odediran, 36, and lighting director Godstime Imeh, were discovered lifeless inside a Nissan vehicle parked within the premises of Evercare Hospital, where filming was ongoing on February 7, 2026.

According to sources familiar with the autopsy, pathologists found no food in Odediran’s stomach, while only a small quantity was detected in Imeh’s stomach. The findings effectively dismissed earlier speculation that food poisoning may have caused their deaths.

Family members confirmed that the preliminary report was delivered on February 18, although further toxicology and histology tests are still being conducted on blood and tissue samples to determine whether the victims may have inhaled or ingested any harmful substances prior to their deaths.

Results from the additional tests are expected within two to three weeks. Meanwhile, relatives and colleagues in Nigeria’s film industry say they are awaiting the final report, hoping it will clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident, which has generated concern within Nollywood.
