Sokoto Gifts 259 Qur’anic Graduates Motorcycles, Cash

The Sokoto State Government has gifted 259 Qur’anic memorisers motorcycles and ₦178 million in financial aid. 

The rewards were presented during a graduation ceremony at Giginya Memorial Stadium to celebrate the students’ academic and spiritual success.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu hailed the achievement as a rare feat that brings pride to the state.

He explained that providing motorcycles would help the graduates travel to various communities to teach and share their religious knowledge.

Beyond student rewards, the Governor approved ₦500,000 for each of the school’s 53 teachers. He also announced a ₦10 million grant for school maintenance and moved all staff onto the official state payroll.

Founder Aliyu Wamakko noted the school’s humble beginnings with just one teacher and 10 students. He revealed an additional ₦168 million in private donations, including ₦30 million from Abdulaziz Yari, to further expand the institution.

Commissioner, Prof. Jabir Sani Maihulla urged the graduates to let the Qur’an guide their character. He emphasized that their conduct should always reflect the values of patience, humility, and moral uprightness in society.

Representing the Sultan of Sokoto, the Waziri of Sokoto offered prayers and congratulations to the new “Huffaz.” He charged them to remain ambassadors of peace and unity, upholding the state’s long-standing tradition of Islamic scholarship.
