A Kwara State High Court in Ilorin has ordered the remand of 83-year-old APC chieftain, Hon. Illiasu Ibrahim, along with two others.
Mallam Shola Muse and Adesemowo Suleiman were also sent to the Oke-Kura Correctional Facility.
The trio is facing a three-count criminal charge for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Dr. Alimi AbdulRazaq. Dr. AbdulRazaq is the elder brother of the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The defendants reportedly made the derogatory statements during a radio program on SBS 96.9 FM. The prosecution claims these remarks were false and intended to damage the reputation of the Governor’s brother.
According to the charge sheet, the statements were not only defamatory but also capable of inciting the public. Authorities argued that the comments posed a threat to the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Justice E.B. Mohammed presided over the arraignment and directed that the defendants remain in custody.
The court session followed a petition filed by the Kwara State Government through the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The matter has been adjourned to April 25, 2026, for further hearing. The defendants will remain at the correctional facility until the next court appearance to determine their bail or trial progress.
