Niger State Police arrested 40-year-old Jafar Mohammed for the attempted sexual assault of three young girls in Kontagora.

The suspect was caught after alert residents responded to a distress call from the scene.

Police report that Mohammed lured the victims, aged six and seven, to an uncompleted building in Dadin-Kowa. He allegedly used the promise of candy to entice the children away from public view.

The attempt failed when one girl raised the alarm, attracting nearby neighbors. The community intervened quickly, rescuing the children and subduing the suspect until officers from the Kontagora Area Command arrived.

The suspect has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further questioning. Authorities are currently finalizing the case to ensure swift prosecution for the alleged crimes.

Separately, police recovered a rusty Submachine Gun found by a resident clearing bushes in Mokwa. The firearm is undergoing ballistic testing to determine its origin and any links to local criminal activities.

SP Wasiu Abiodun urged parents to remain vigilant and supervise their children closely. The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable citizens and ridding the state of sexual predators and illegal arms.
