The Lagos Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has officially unveiled a multi-million naira motor park named after President Bola Tinubu.

The facility, christened President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Modern Garage, is located in Oyingbo, Lagos, and is scheduled for formal inauguration today in the presence of top Lagos State Government officials and leaders of the transport union.

Union officials described the project as a landmark investment aimed at modernising public transport infrastructure in the state.

According to them, the new garage is equipped with improved loading bays, administrative offices, passenger waiting areas and enhanced security features designed to streamline operations and improve commuter experience.

They said the project reflects the union’s commitment to aligning with ongoing urban renewal and transport reforms in Lagos.

The decision to name the facility after President Tinubu was described by union leaders as a gesture of appreciation for his longstanding relationship with transport workers and his contributions to Lagos’ development during his tenure as governor and in his current role as President.

Oyingbo, a bustling commercial hub on Lagos Mainland, is considered a strategic location for such infrastructure due to its high daily passenger traffic and connectivity to other parts of the state.

The unveiling ceremony is expected to attract senior state officials, transport stakeholders, community leaders and members of the NURTW across Lagos.

Observers say the development underscores the growing collaboration between transport unions and government authorities in improving mobility infrastructure in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
