APC Welcomes PDP Defectors as Oyebamiji Pledges Inclusive Governance

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has officially welcomed several lawmakers who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), strengthening the party’s position ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship election.

Among the defectors received were Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi (Osun East), Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), and federal lawmakers Wole Oke (Ijesa North), Sanya Ominrin (Ijesa South), and Taofeek Ajilesoro (Ife Federal Constituency). The event in Osogbo also doubled as a rally in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027. Speaking at the ceremony, APC gubernatorial candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji assured party members and the public of his commitment to inclusive governance. He emphasized that all voices within the party would be heard and valued, stressing unity as a key ingredient for success in both the state and national elections. Oyebamiji described the defections as a bold step toward fostering stability and development in Osun, signaling growing momentum for the APC in the state. “We are committed to a government that listens to every stakeholder and promotes progress for all,” he said. APC leaders, including Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, reiterated the party’s goal of reclaiming the governorship from the opposition and delivering effective governance. They highlighted the successes of the APC-led federal government as part of their campaign narrative, positioning the party for a strong showing in the August polls. The defections and endorsements are seen as a major boost for the APC, signaling a broadened political base and a unified front in the upcoming elections. Observers note that this development could significantly influence the dynamics of the Osun governorship race, with the opposition parties facing challenges in mounting equally cohesive campaigns.
