Sanwo-Olu Appoints Oba Ogunsanwo as New Chancellor of LASU
Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to Lagos State University, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appointed His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, as the university’s sixth Chancellor.
This appointment follows the conclusion of the tenure of Professor Gbolahan Elias, SAN, who served as the fifth Chancellor and was commended for his contributions to the university and for upholding its dignity throughout his term.
The Lagos State Government confirmed the appointment in a statement released by the university Registrar, Mr Emmanuel Fanu, noting that the selection was made under the provisions of the Lagos State University Law 2004 (As amended), which empowers the Visitor to appoint the Chancellor.
Oba Ogunsanwo’s tenure as Chancellor will run for a single five-year term starting from Friday, February 13, 2026, with eligibility for renewal for an additional term.
University officials, including the Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor, extended congratulations to Oba Ogunsanwo, expressing optimism that his leadership will positively influence the institution’s growth and further its mission and vision.
