Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead a high-powered federal delegation to Kano following the devastating Singer Market fire.
The mission, ordered by President Tinubu, aims to provide direct support to victims of the weekend disaster.
The team is set to depart Abuja on Monday to convey condolences to traders who lost billions in the blaze.
This marks the second time in just two weeks that the market has been gutted by fire.
During the visit, the delegation will pledge financial assistance to help affected businessmen recover. The federal government also plans to assist Kano State in ensuring the market can be safely and swiftly reopened.
President Tinubu personally phoned Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to express his sympathy for the people of Kano. He described the recurring incidents as tragic and underscored the necessity of immediate federal intervention.
The delegation includes Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs. The Director-General of NEMA will also join the team to coordinate emergency relief efforts.
Beyond providing aid, the President has ordered a thorough investigation into the causes of these frequent fires. The goal is to identify vulnerabilities and implement permanent safety solutions for major commercial hubs.
