My Father Didn’t Tap Phones, Public Shouldn’t Misinterpret Him, Clarifies Bashir El-Rufai

Bashir El-Rufai has clarified that his father, former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, never admitted to tapping anyone’s phone.

He explained that his father only referenced information that was allegedly obtained by another person and shared with him without solicitation.

The clarification was made to prevent the matter from being misrepresented in ways that could cause difficulties for the former governor. Bashir urged the public to stop attributing actions to his father that he did not commit.

The statement comes after calls from the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, for an investigation into El-Rufai, citing concerns over comments made regarding phone conversations linked to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

Bashir emphasized that while his father had previously mentioned knowledge of a conversation on Ribadu’s phone, he did not personally conduct any phone tapping, denying claims that have circulated online.
