By Mercy Omotosho

The Sokoto State Police Command, working alongside the Community Guard, have arrested several individuals suspected to be informants and financiers for bandits and recovered seven rustled cows and a motorcycle during a coordinated operation in the state.

Security sources disclosed that the arrests were made in the early hours of February 2, 2026, following actionable intelligence. At about 1:00 a.m., operatives raided Sarma Village in Tangaza Local Government Area, where two suspects were apprehended.

The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Nura Dan Haruna and 18-year-old Buhari Salah, were reportedly found in possession of seven stolen cows and a motorcycle without a registration number.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed that they were acting on the instructions of two individuals, Abdullahi Gulum and Dan Iko, who are currently at large. They said they were tasked with delivering the cattle to Hamza Ibrahim, 56, of the Kara area in Illela Local Government Area.

Hamza Ibrahim was subsequently arrested and reportedly admitted to receiving the cattle. He further disclosed that two of the cows had been sold last month to Abubakar Muhammad, 31, of Gwadabawa Local Government Area.

Following this revelation, Abubakar Muhammad was also taken into custody by security operatives.

Police authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing, adding that efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest other members of the suspected network who are still on the run.
