Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has slammed the brutal bandit attacks on the Woro and Nuku communities.
The Tuesday evening raid was a nightmare, leaving several people dead and homes reduced to ashes. It’s a heartbreaking situation for the local residents who are now mourning their loved ones.
In a statement from Ilorin, the Governor called the violence a senseless hit on innocent civilians. He sent his deepest sympathies to the grieving families and promised that the state is taking action. Right now, security forces are on the ground working to stabilize the area and restore some sense of peace.
AbdulRazaq believes these attacks are actually a sign of desperation from the bandits. He noted that because security agencies have been successfully busting up kidnapping rings lately, the criminals are lashing out.
He views this violence as a frantic attempt to cause panic and distract the military from their mission.
The Governor made it clear that he sees these tactics as a sign of weakness.
As the official statement noted: “The governor condemns the attack, which he says is a cowardly expression of frustration by terrorist cells following the ongoing counterterrorism campaigns in parts of the state and the successes so far recorded.”
Following the tragedy, he ordered security agencies to ramp up their counter-terrorism efforts immediately. He’s pledged to keep providing the police and military with the resources they need to protect the public.
The message is simple: Kwara will not be a safe haven for anyone looking to cause chaos.
The focus now is on finding residents who fled into the bush during the chaos. Community leaders are also calling for a permanent security presence near the borders to prevent future raids.
Meanwhile, the hunt is officially on to track down those responsible for the attack.
