Wike-Backed PDP Faction Holds Strategic planning in Abuja

A faction of the PDP backed by Nyesom Wike held a BoT meeting in Abuja to address the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.

BoT Chairman Mao Ohuabunwa acknowledged the recent turmoil, stating, “Internal disagreements, leadership disputes, and legal contests have tested our cohesion.”

Ohuabunwa emphasized that the party has survived by adhering to its constitutional order rather than succumbing to internal friction.

He urged members to prioritize stability, noting, “History will judge us kindly if it records that, at a critical moment, the PDP chose legality over expediency and patience over provocation.”

The chairman also lauded a court ruling that nullified a convention held by a rival faction, insisting the BoT must remain a fair arbiter. He highlighted the party’s inclusive nature, saying, “Our moral authority derives not from partisanship, but from fairness, balance, and fidelity to due process. As a family, the PDP has always accommodated strong opinions and influential actors.”

To resolve the impasse, caretaker chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed announced a new timetable for state congresses to ensure a smooth national convention.

He described the PDP as a unique institution “built and centred on people structures, national coherence, and verifiable legacies.”

The meeting served as a call to action to unify the polarized party and maintain its national relevance. Stressing the urgency of the situation and the need for active leadership, Mohammed warned, “We cannot afford for this party to sleep in our hands.”
