President Tinubu Returns to Abuja After State Visit to Türkiye
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Abuja following a high-profile State visit to Türkiye, which was aimed at deepening diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
The presidential aircraft landed at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at approximately 8:55 p.m. on Saturday.
Upon his arrival, the President was received by a delegation of senior government officials.
Notable figures present included the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, among other key aides.
During his stay in Ankara, President Tinubu engaged in extensive high-level talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The discussions focused on scaling up cooperation in critical sectors such as trade, investment, defence, energy, and counter-terrorism, culminating in the signing of nine strategic agreements and Memoranda of Understanding.
A major highlight of the visit was the commitment to significantly boost bilateral trade. President Erdogan expressed a firm resolve to increase the trade volume from the current $2 billion to a target of $5 billion.
To facilitate this, both leaders agreed on the establishment of a Joint Economy and Trade Committee to serve as a platform for expanding commercial relations.
The Turkish leader also praised the Nigerian President’s investment-driven agenda and offered to share Türkiye’s extensive experience in counter-terrorism and defence.
In response, President Tinubu expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and the readiness of the Turkish government to partner with Nigeria in advancing shared prosperity.
Highlighting the importance of cooperation and the inclusion of all citizens in national growth, President Tinubu stated,“He underscored the need for an inclusive economic model that integrates vulnerable groups into productive ventures.”
