Tinubu Will Win Convincingly in 2027, Says Matawalle

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, has expressed strong confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure a convincing victory in the 2027 presidential election, citing the administration’s ongoing reforms and growing national support.

Matawalle made the assertion while speaking with journalists in Abuja, where he urged Nigerians and political stakeholders to allow the Tinubu administration the political space needed to fully implement its programmes. According to him, the president’s economic and institutional reforms, though challenging, are already laying the foundation for long-term stability and growth. The former Zamfara State governor warned against what he described as premature political manoeuvring and distractions, noting that early campaigns and power struggles could undermine governance and democratic stability. He stressed that Nigerians should focus more on the outcomes of governance rather than political calculations ahead of the next election cycle. Matawalle argued that Tinubu’s leadership style and policy direction would ultimately resonate with voters, especially as the benefits of reforms in areas such as economic stabilization, security, and institutional strengthening become more visible. He maintained that sustained support for the administration would translate into broad electoral backing in 2027. His comments align with a growing chorus of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and support groups who have publicly endorsed Tinubu for a second term. In recent months, several party stakeholders across regions, particularly in the North, have declared support for the president’s re-election bid, describing him as a unifying figure with a clear reform agenda. However, political analysts note that while such endorsements signal early confidence within the ruling party, Nigeria’s political landscape remains fluid. Opposition parties are expected to intensify consultations and coalition talks as 2027 approaches, making the eventual contest dependent on voter sentiment, economic conditions, and security developments closer to the polls. Despite differing views, Matawalle insisted that the president’s performance in office would ultimately define the outcome. “If Nigerians judge by results and allow these reforms to mature,” he said, “President Tinubu will win convincingly in 2027.
