US Mission Launches Free Online English Courses for Nigerians
The United States Mission in Nigeria has officially announced the launch of free online English language courses for Nigerians.
This initiative is designed to help learners enhance their professional skills and broaden their career opportunities through specialized communication training.
The announcement was shared via the mission’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle. The U.S. Mission emphasized that these courses are structured to support long-term professional success while offering participants the flexibility to study at their own pace.
The program is offered through the U.S. Department of State’s Online Professional English Network (OPEN). It provides a platform for Nigerian learners to connect with a global community of students while mastering high-demand communication skills.
Enrollment for the current cycle is already underway, having opened on January 5, 2026. Interested applicants have until March 23, 2026, to register, while the courses themselves are scheduled to run until March 30, 2026.
Available courses include “English for Business and Entrepreneurship,” which focuses on business vocabulary, and “English for Tourism Professionals,” tailored for those in the hospitality and travel sectors. There is also an “English for Career Development” course to assist with resume writing and interview preparation.
The initiative aims to empower Nigerians by providing them with the linguistic tools necessary to excel in an increasingly competitive global market. Participants will be able to access the learning materials through the Mission’s dedicated online platform.
To participate, interested individuals are encouraged to visit the official U.S. Mission website or use the links provided in their social media announcement. This educational opportunity reflects the continued partnership between the U.S. and Nigeria in fostering human capital development.
