LAMATA Launches ‘Soro Soke’ Campaign to Tackle Sexual Harassment in Lagos Transport

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has launched a new campaign titled ‘Soro Soke’ (Speak Up) to combat sexual harassment within Lagos’s public transport systems.

The initiative was officially unveiled on Tuesday at LAMATA’s headquarters, aiming to improve commuter safety and foster a gender-equitable environment for all passengers.

The campaign specifically addresses harassment in informal transport spaces and is supported by the EMPOWER Project 3, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, urged victims to break the culture of silence and report every incident to the appropriate authorities.

LAMATA Managing Director, Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to creating safer environments through increased surveillance and collaboration with security agencies.

The agency stated: “With the ‘Soro Soke’ campaign, LAMATA reinforces its resolve to make Lagos public transport safer, more inclusive, and responsive, ensuring that every voice matters and every commuter is protected.”

To facilitate reporting, QR codes will be placed at transport hubs across the state, encouraging commuters to use technology to hold offenders accountable.
