Rivers United Earn First CAF Champions League Point After Goalless Draw in Zambia
Rivers United claimed their first point of the CAF Champions League group stage after holding Zambia’s Power Dynamos to a 0–0 draw in their Matchday Three encounter in Ndola on Saturday.
Both teams entered the fixture under pressure, having lost their opening two matches in Group A. While the result did little to shift the group standings, it ensured that Rivers United remain in contention for qualification as the competition reached its midpoint.
The Nigerian side showed improved organisation and defensive solidity, particularly impressive given the challenge of playing away from home.
Power Dynamos, driven by home supporters, enjoyed spells of attacking pressure but found it difficult to break through a disciplined Rivers United defence.
The contest unfolded as a closely fought battle, with urgency from both sides but limited creativity in the final third.
Genuine scoring opportunities were scarce, and goalkeepers were rarely called into action as midfield duels and cautious tactics defined much of the game.
Changes introduced in the second half brought fresh intensity, yet neither team managed to produce the decisive moment required to claim victory. As time wore on, both sides appeared more focused on avoiding defeat than risking everything for three points.
For Rivers United, the draw halts their losing start to the group campaign and provides a foundation to build upon ahead of upcoming fixtures.
Power Dynamos, meanwhile, will view the result as a missed chance to capitalise on home advantage.
