Remi Tinubu to Give Keynote Address at 2026 Nigeria Teachers’ Summit

The Federal Government has announced that the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will deliver the keynote address at the Nigeria Teachers’ Summit 2026, scheduled to take place from January 27 to 28.

The summit, organised by the Federal Ministry of Education, is part of ongoing efforts to place teachers at the forefront of national education reform.

It will convene educators, policymakers, legislators, school administrators, development partners, civil society groups, private sector stakeholders, parents and media representatives to deliberate on issues affecting teacher welfare, professionalism and learning outcomes.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the event was described as a strategic platform to strengthen the teaching profession and advance sustainable education transformation.

The statement confirmed that the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, will also deliver special remarks at the gathering.

According to the ministry, the summit will feature recognition of outstanding teachers from the six geopolitical zones, culminating in the selection of an overall best-performing teacher nationwide.

It noted that the initiative is aimed at restoring the prestige of the teaching profession, promoting excellence and motivating educators as key contributors to national development.

The programme will also witness the unveiling of the Edurevamp Online Teacher Professional Development Portal, designed to provide continuous training and skill enhancement opportunities for teachers across the country.

Other activities lined up for the two-day event include plenary sessions, panel discussions and expert-led presentations focusing on teacher welfare, professional growth, curriculum relevance, modern teaching techniques and the integration of technology in education.

The summit is expected to conclude with the adoption of a communiqué outlining actionable recommendations for the sector.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving education quality, the ministry stated that no education system can surpass the standard of its teachers.

Nigeria’s education sector continues to face persistent challenges, including concerns over teacher welfare, limited access to consistent professional training, inadequate classroom facilities and infrastructural deficits.

These issues, alongside recurring industrial actions by education unions, have intensified debates on the state of teaching and learning in public schools nationwide.
