FG Engages Meta to Strengthen Information Integrity, Digital Cooperation

Nigeria is seeking to strengthen strategic cooperation with Meta as part of efforts to promote responsible digital governance, enhance fact-checking mechanisms and foster constructive online discourse.

This was discussed during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar and senior Meta executives in Abuja.

At the meeting, Ambassador Tuggar engaged Meta’s Senior Vice President for Global Policy, Mr. Kevin Martin and the Vice President for Public Policy for Africa, the Middle East and Turkey, Mr. Kojo Boakye, to explore areas of strategic partnership between Nigeria and the global technology company.

Discussions centred on strengthening Nigeria-Meta relations, promoting information integrity, supporting responsible digital engagement and ensuring that digital platforms contribute positively to national development and democratic resilience.

The parties also explored collaboration on initiatives aimed at combating misinformation and encouraging ethical digital participation.

Ambassador Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working with global technology firms to ensure that digital platforms support national development objectives, regional stability and democratic growth.

He stressed the importance of partnerships that promote accountability and positive engagement in the digital space.

In response, Meta executives expressed readiness to support initiatives that enhance fact-checking, information integrity and responsible digital discourse.

They also indicated interest in deeper collaboration with Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to advance shared objectives in digital governance.

The engagement reflects Nigeria’s broader efforts to build partnerships with international technology companies in addressing the challenges and opportunities of the digital information ecosystem.
