Transformer Fault Throws Ibadan into Darkness

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has announced a major power outage in Ibadan caused by a technical fault on a primary transformer.
This disruption, reported on January 19, 2026, has left several residential and business districts in total darkness.
The outage has deactivated numerous distribution feeders, cutting off supply to critical industrial and commercial hubs.
Major companies like Eagle Flour and Frigoglass, along with prominent media outlets like Fresh FM and Splash FM, are currently without power.
Numerous residential neighborhoods are also affected, spanning areas from Felele Estate and Challenge to Odo Ona Kekere and Idi Ayunre.
The blackout extends to several local markets and communities, significantly disrupting daily activities for thousands of inhabitants.
IBEDC apologized for the inconvenience, explaining that the outage was an unforeseen technical emergency.
The company emphasized that the shutdown was necessary to maintain grid integrity while repairs are carried out on the faulty equipment.
Technical teams have been deployed to fix the transformer and restore electricity as quickly as possible. Although a specific restoration time was not provided, the company assured customers that work is underway to stabilize the power supply.
