FG Unveils Free Technical Education Drive

The Federal Government has launched a free technical education initiative aimed at providing young Nigerians with industry-relevant skills.

This program, led by the Ministry of Education, seeks to eliminate financial barriers to vocational training. By empowering the youth, the government aims to bridge the national skills gap and boost economic competitiveness.

Prospective students can apply for admission into Federal Technical Colleges starting Monday, January 26, 2026. The registration window remains open until Sunday, May 24, 2026. Following the application period, the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) will take place nationwide on Saturday, June 6, 2026, to select qualified candidates.

All registrations must be completed online via the official NABTEB portal to ensure a streamlined process. Applicants are required to provide a valid National Identification Number (NIN) during registration. The Ministry emphasized that the NIN is a compulsory prerequisite for identity verification and eligibility.

The program targets Nigerians aged 13 to 20, offering them fully funded technical education. This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which focuses on human capital development. By waiving tuition, the government hopes to make technical and vocational training accessible to all.

The Ministry has explicitly warned school administrators against charging unauthorized or illegal fees to parents. While the government covers tuition and core technical costs, the policy remains strict on maintaining transparency. However, students in boarding houses are still responsible for their personal items and basic cleaning supplies.

This investment is designed to produce self-reliant graduates capable of contributing to sectors like manufacturing and the digital economy. The government believes this focus on vocational training will foster long-term innovation and productivity. Parents are urged to rely only on official channels for information throughout the enrollment phase.
