Shettima Represents Tinubu at Doumbouya’s Inauguration in Guinea-Conakry
Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of President Mamadi Doumbouya in Guinea-Conakry, reaffirming Nigeria’s leadership role in the Economic Community of West African States and its commitment to democratic governance in the sub-region.
Doumbouya was sworn in following his victory in Guinea’s December 2025 general elections, which marked the end of a four-year military transition. He will serve a single seven-year term under Guinea’s new constitution approved by referendum in September 2025. The revised constitution extended presidential tenure from five to seven years, renewable only once.
Shettima’s presence at the event underscored Nigeria’s support for democratic stability across West Africa.
The Vice President also used the visit to advance efforts to strengthen economic ties and expand the trade corridor between Nigeria and Guinea.
The inauguration took place at the General Lansana Conté Stadium in Conakry and was attended by several African leaders and senior officials.
Among them were representatives from Ghana, Senegal, Gambia, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Rwanda, South Africa, and Guinea-Bissau, as well as the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Alieu Touray.
In his inaugural address, President Doumbouya pledged to uphold the constitution, promote transparent governance and protect national unity, adding that peace and cohesion would remain priorities under his administration.
Details of the event were contained in a statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President.
