China Launches World’s First 10G Broadband Network, Delivering Breakthrough Internet Speeds
China has reached a significant technological achievement by introducing the world’s first commercial 10-Gigabit (10G) broadband network. This innovative project, launched in Sunan County, Hebei Province, is a collaboration between telecommunications leader Huawei and state-owned provider China Unicom. This advancement places China at the leading edge of next-generation internet technology, offering exceptional download and upload speeds.
The newly deployed 10G broadband network features remarkable download speeds of up to 9,834 Mbps and upload speeds of 1,008 Mbps, with a remarkably low latency of just 3 milliseconds. These speeds are ten times greater than current standard gigabit broadband services.
To put this into perspective: downloading a 20GB 4K movie, which usually takes between 7 and 10 minutes on a typical 1Gbps connection, can now be completed in under 20 seconds on the 10G network.
This breakthrough is made possible by 50G Passive Optical Network (PON) technology, representing a significant advancement in fiber-optic communication. This technology enhances data transmission efficiency over existing infrastructure, allowing for large-scale implementation without the necessity of building entirely new networks.
