Nobody’s Political Ambition Is Worth the Blood of Any Nigerian, Reiterates Goodluck Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has once again called for peace and responsible leadership, reiterating his famous stance that no political ambition should come at the cost of human lives.
Speaking during a media engagement in Abuja, Jonathan emphasized that the integrity of the democratic process must not be undermined by violence, thuggery, or the sacrifice of innocent lives. He cautioned politicians across the spectrum to put the nation’s unity and the well-being of the people above personal or party interests.
“Nobody’s political ambition is worth the blood of any Nigeria. If you truly mean well for your people and you seek to govern them, then you cannot at the same time support actions that lead to their deaths. You cannot kill and expect to govern graves,”Jonathan declared.
The former president’s statement comes amid growing concerns about electoral violence and political instability, particularly in areas preparing for off-cycle gubernatorial and legislative polls.
Jonathan’s message echoes the historic concession he made after the 2015 general elections, when he peacefully handed over power to President Muhammadu Buhari. That moment, seen by many as a turning point in Nigerian democracy, was defined by the same powerful message—one that continues to resonate with citizens and political observers alike.
“In 2015, I said it, and I still stand by it: my ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian. That belief has not changed and never will,” he added.
Since leaving office, Goodluck Jonathan has remained an advocate for peace, democratic reforms, and conflict resolution.
He has led several international election observation missions and has continued to speak out against violence in politics.
Political analysts say Jonathan’s consistent call for peaceful conduct is particularly crucial as Nigeria grapples with heightened insecurity, ethnic tensions, and economic challenges that have deepened public anxiety.
The former president’s message has been widely circulated and praised on social media, with many Nigerians urging current political leaders to adopt the same statesmanship and maturity as the country approaches another critical electoral season.
