Presidential Bounty: Mozambique Offers N11.3m Per Player to Topple Super Eagles

‎In a bold move to inspire a historic upset, Mozambique’s President, Daniel Francisco Chapo has officially placed a massive bounty on the heads of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 clash on Monday, President Chapo has promised each player and member of the technical staff a bonus of 500,000 Meticais, which is approximately ₦11.3 million, if they defeat the three-time African champions.

‎The “Mambas” of Mozambique reached the knockout stages as one of the best third-placed teams, a feat the President described as unprecedented and meritorious.

In a message sent to the squad, Chapo praised the team’s courage and discipline, stating that the achievement has filled the nation with pride and that the entire country stands behind them in their quest to overcome the Nigerian side.

‎Nigeria enters the match as heavy favorites, having dominated Group C with a perfect record of three wins. However, the Mozambican government is banking on this financial incentive to fuel a “giant-killing” performance.

The high-stakes encounter is scheduled for Monday, January 5, 2026, at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Morocco, with the winner set to advance to the Quarter-finals to face either Algeria or DR Congo.
