Anthony Joshua’s SUV Driver Arrested Following Fatal Highway Crash

The Ogun State Police have taken the driver of the Lexus SUV carrying former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua into custody following a crash on Monday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Danco.

The accident involved Joshua and three others traveling from Lagos to Sagamu.

The SUV reportedly collided with a stationary truck. While Joshua survived with minor injuries, two of his close associates, Kevin Latif Ayodele, his personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, died on the spot. Both were British citizens with Ayodele holding dual Nigerian-British nationality.

Anthony Joshua and his mother visited a Lagos funeral home on Wednesday to pay respects to the deceased before their bodies were prepared for repatriation.

The boxer was discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, after doctors confirmed he was fit to continue recovery at home.

FRSC officials suggested that excessive speed and wrongful overtaking may have contributed to the crash while the Ogun State Police noted that a tyre burst may have caused the accident.

Authorities continue to investigate all factors leading to the collision.

Both Lagos and Ogun State governments expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, thanking medical personnel for their care of the injured and appreciating public concern.

President Bola Tinubu was also commended for his support during the recovery process.
