‎New Year: Amaechi Charges Nigerians to Hold Leaders Accountable

‎In his New Year message, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi urged Nigerians to actively hold their leaders accountable, asserting that a government focused on the people is essential for solving the nation’s security and economic crises.

‎Reflecting on the difficulties of 2025, he acknowledged that many families faced immense pressure from rising costs and safety concerns. He encouraged the public to treat the start of the year as a pivotal moment for national unity and stability by collectively demanding more from those in power.

‎Amaechi specifically advocated for urgent reforms that prioritize job creation, affordable housing, and quality education. He stated, “As we welcome the New Year, let us all commit to making a turning point in our national aspiration for peace, unity, improved security of lives and property, economic stability and prosperity, and the overall well-being of our people, by holding the government accountable.”

He further emphasized that citizens must insist on a transparent electoral process where justice and the rule of law are strictly upheld. The former governor noted that the nation’s potential rests with its ordinary citizens rather than a small group of elites.

‎Regarding the standard of governance Nigerians should expect, he remarked, “We must collectively demand leadership that is responsible, responsive, transparent, people-oriented, and accountable to the people. We must call for and demand economic reforms that would result in job creation, poverty reduction, affordable healthcare, affordable housing, affordable food, and quality education for all.”

‎Concluding his message, Amaechi promised to remain a vocal advocate for the public by challenging policies that increase hardship.

He insisted that electoral integrity is vital for the country’s future, saying, “We must insist on political and electoral reforms that provide a free, fair and transparent electoral process. We deserve a Nigeria where justice, fairness and the rule of law are respected.”
