Police Nab Five Suspected Kidnappers, Recover Firearms in Kebbi
The Kebbi State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping and illegal arms possession, arresting five suspects and recovering several locally made firearms in coordinated operations across the state.
The arrests, which took place between December 21 and December 27, 2025, followed intensified patrols and intelligence-led operations by police operatives in key local government areas.
In Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, the police apprehended a suspect from Yarbuga village who allegedly threatened the village head of a neighbouring community and another resident with abduction unless a ransom of ₦500,000 was paid.
During preliminary investigations, the suspect reportedly admitted to the crime and mentioned an accomplice who is currently being sought by the police.
Another suspect was also arrested in the same local government area for allegedly demanding ₦1 million from a resident of Koliko village while issuing threats of kidnapping.
Police sources disclosed that the suspect further confessed to having links with a previous kidnapping case within the area.
Meanwhile, in Kalgo Local Government Area, a separate police operation led to the arrest of three individuals found in possession of 10 locally fabricated firearms.
The suspects were unable to give a credible account of how they came by the weapons, raising concerns over their intended use.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Bashir Usman, said the successes were a result of sustained patrols and timely intelligence. He added that the Commissioner of Police, Bello M. Sani, has directed that investigations be concluded promptly to allow for prosecution of the suspects.
The police leadership also appealed to residents of the state to remain vigilant and support security agencies by reporting suspicious movements or activities, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to curbing crime across Kebbi State.
