LASTMA Temporarily Shuts Otedola Bridge After Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Truck Accident
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced a temporary closure of the Otedola Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to enable the removal of two container-laden trucks involved in an early morning accident.
In a video update released on Saturday, the agency said recovery operations were still in progress, with heavy-duty equipment already deployed to the scene.
According to LASTMA, vehicular movement has been completely suspended on the bridge to allow for the safe evacuation of the affected trucks. The authority disclosed that a high-capacity crane and flatbed trucks were being used to retrieve the 20-foot containerised vehicles, urging motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic officials on ground.
To reduce congestion, LASTMA advised road users to seek alternative routes.
Motorists travelling through the axis were encouraged to divert from the Redeem Camp or Kara areas via Ogunusi Road, proceed through Omole Junction, and connect Agidingbi Road to continue their journeys.
The incident reportedly occurred around 6:30 a.m. when one of the containerised trucks toppled on the Otedola Bridge inward Secretariat, triggering a severe traffic backlog that extended as far as Berger-Oke.
LASTMA noted that its officials were promptly deployed to manage the situation and ensure a speedy clearance of the obstruction.
The agency assured the public that efforts to recover the vehicles and restore normal traffic flow were ongoing, while also cautioning motorists to drive carefully in the area.
