AGF Fagbemi: Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” Agenda to Digitize, Accelerate Justice
The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to building a justice sector that is efficient, accountable, and capable of delivering timely results for Nigerians.
Speaking in Abuja at the launch of the Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS), Fagbemi emphasized that the transition to a paperless environment is a “cornerstone” of the administration’s digital transformation strategy.
The ECMS: A Digital Revolution in Legal Governance
The ECMS is a specialized digital platform designed to automate the lifecycle of official documents—from creation and processing to electronic approval and retrieval.
* Massive Digitization: The Ministry has already scanned and uploaded 6,241 physical files (totaling 331,297 pages) onto the system within just eight weeks.
* Bureaucracy Removal: By digitizing correspondences and legal documents, the Ministry aims to dismantle bottlenecks that historically slowed down legal processes.
* Staff Readiness: The project achieved 100% official email coverage for all staff and included rigorous digital skills training to ensure a smooth transition.
“The ECMS is not merely a technological intervention; it is a governance reform that strengthens institutional memory… and enforces discipline in workflow and accountability.” — Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN
The AGF noted that this digital shift aligns with several high-level frameworks:
* Renewed Hope Agenda: The President’s mandate for digitally enabled governance.
* FCSSIP25 (Pillar 5): The Federal Civil Service Strategy focused on digital transformation.
* National Policy on Justice: Ensuring that justice institutions are citizen-driven and modern.
In addition to the technological “Go-Live,” the AGF inaugurated several upgraded facilities at the Ministry to boost staff morale and productivity, including:
* A renovated staff clinic and canteen.
* A new sports centre and a creche for working parents.
The event was attended by top government officials, including the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, and the Solicitor-General of the Federation, Mrs. Beatrice Jeddy-Agba, alongside partners such as the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation.
