Ekiti Government Pledges Affordable Healthcare Services for Residents

The Ekiti State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing affordable, accessible and quality healthcare services to residents as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s health system and improve overall well being

Governor Biodun Oyebanji said the administration is determined to ensure that no resident is denied medical care due to financial constraints, stressing that healthcare remains a key pillar of his government’s development agenda. According to him, the goal is to make quality healthcare a right for every Ekiti citizen, regardless of social or economic status. Central to this commitment is the expansion of the Ulerawa Health Insurance Scheme, which has continued to provide subsidised and, in some cases, free medical services to residents across the state. The scheme covers maternal and child healthcare, routine treatments, immunisation, and emergency care, particularly at primary healthcare centres in rural communities. The state government has also intensified the renovation and upgrading of public health facilities, including primary healthcare centres and general hospitals, while ensuring the availability of essential drugs and modern medical equipment. In addition, more healthcare workers have been recruited and deployed to address manpower shortages and improve service delivery. Officials say these interventions have significantly reduced out-of-pocket spending on healthcare, with thousands of residents already benefiting from free or low-cost services, including antenatal care and safe deliveries. Governor Oyebanji noted that partnerships with federal programmes and development partners have further strengthened Ekiti’s healthcare delivery, especially in supporting vulnerable groups such as the elderly, women and children. He assured residents that the government would continue to invest in health infrastructure, workforce welfare and insurance coverage to achieve universal health access and restore confidence in public healthcare institutions. Residents have welcomed the pledge, expressing hope that sustained implementation of these policies will further improve healthcare outcomes and living standards across the state.
