Foundation Distributes 5,000 Schoolbags to Anambra Pupils
A United States-trained medical doctor, Dr. Thelma Ezeonu, has underscored the importance of education as the foundation for success, urging pupils to take personal responsibility for their learning and future.
Dr. Ezeonu gave the charge on Wednesday at Udoka Primary School, Agulu, during the distribution of over 5,000 free schoolbags to pupils in public primary schools in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Speaking at the event, she encouraged the pupils to see education as the bedrock of whatever they aspire to become in life, stressing that deliberate and consistent personal effort would set them apart and help them achieve their full potential.
“While teachers provide knowledge, guidance and support, each child must also make a personal effort to learn and grow. That is what will make you unique and help you stand out,” she told the pupils.
Dr. Ezeonu, who is a co-founder of the Hamilton and Thelma Ezeonu Foundation and wife of Anambra-born business mogul and philanthropist, Chief Hamilton Ezeonu (Ikemba Nnobi), said the gesture was part of the foundation’s “One Child, One School Bag” initiative in the state.
She explained that the initiative is aimed at supporting government efforts to promote access to quality education, especially among children in public schools.
According to her, since November 2025, the foundation has distributed over 15,000 schoolbags to pupils in 45 public primary schools across seven communities in Idemili South Local Government Area.
She added that the outreach in Agulu and Neni communities in Anaocha LGA marked a continuation of the programme, with more than 5,000 schoolbags distributed to pupils during the visit.
Dr. Ezeonu reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to educational development and child welfare, noting that investing in education remains one of the most effective ways to shape a better future for society.
The event attracted school administrators, teachers and community members, who commended the foundation for its sustained support for public education in Anambra State.
