Malami Releases Salami Report Allegedly Indicting EFCC Chairman

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has released the long-awaited Salami Report, which reportedly indicts the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The report, compiled by a probe panel chaired by retired Justice Ayo Salami, was set up to investigate allegations of misconduct, abuse of office, and corruption within the EFCC.

Its release marks a significant development in Nigeria’s long-running anti-corruption and accountability debates.

According to sources familiar with the document, the report contains adverse findings against the EFCC chairman, including alleged procedural violations and conduct deemed inconsistent with the responsibilities of the office. The details of the indictments are said to be based on testimonies, internal documents, and findings gathered during the panel’s sittings.

Malami, who oversaw the establishment of the Salami-led panel while in office, reportedly made the document public to address persistent public interest and speculation surrounding its contents, years after the probe was concluded.

The release of the report has already sparked reactions across political and civil society circles, with some groups calling for immediate action based on the panel’s recommendations, while others insist the accused must be given full opportunity to respond in line with due process.

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC chairman has not issued an official response to the contents of the Salami Report.

The Federal Government has also not announced whether it will act on the panel’s findings.

Political analysts say the disclosure could have far-reaching implications for the anti-graft agency and may reignite conversations about transparency, internal accountability, and the independence of Nigeria’s anti-corruption institutions.
