Security Forces Dismantle Bandit Roadblock, Seize Arms, Motorcycle

Security operatives in Katsina State successfully disrupted a potential attack by armed criminals along the Kandawa–Dankar route in Batsari Local Government Area.

The foiled operation resulted in the recovery of weapons, ammunition, and a motorcycle abandoned by fleeing suspects.

According to a statement released by the state police command, the incident occurred on Friday, when officers acting on credible intelligence learned that a gang of suspected bandits planned to block the busy rural corridor.

At around 1000 hours, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised a tactical team that proceeded to the area.

The security operatives engaged the assailants in a gun‑battle. The superior tactics and coordinated response forced the criminals to break off the attack and abandon their weapons as they fled into surrounding bushland. Following a sweep of the scene, the team recovered two AK‑47 rifles, 24 rounds of live ammunition, and a single Boxer motorcycle — believed to have been used by the bandits to carry out the planned blockade.

Bello Shehu, Commissioner of Police, commended the officers involved, describing their action as “swift, professional and disciplined.” He said the success underscores the renewed commitment of the command — under directives from the Inspector‑General of Police — to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace across vulnerable communities.

While investigations are ongoing, police have appealed to residents to continue providing timely intelligence and to report suspicious movements through designated emergency contacts.

The command emphasised that community cooperation remains critical to consolidating recent gains in the fight against banditry.

This latest breakthrough comes amid a broader push by security agencies across Katsina to clamp down on bandit activities. In recent operations, teams have successfully foiled multiple attacks, neutralised suspected criminals, rescued abductees, and recovered weapons and stolen assets.

As the security forces intensify patrols and community‑based intelligence gathering, officials say they are determined to prevent recurrence of such attacks and to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of residents across Katsina’s rural communities.
